A LITTLE CATCHING UP TO DO

WE GOT SNOW!!!!!
YES, IT WAS A BIG DEAL. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW. IT NEVER SNOWS IN HOUSTON. WE HAD A WHITE CHRISTMAS IN 2004 BUT PRIOR TO THAT IT HAD BEEN 15 YEARS...SO WE WERE EXCITED.

CALEB WAS DRINKING HOT CHOCOLATE

THEN WE MADE RICE KRISPIES AND CHRISTMAS COOKIES

MY MUNCHKINS

I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO FIND THE TIME ANYMORE TO UPDATE MY BLOG. I CAN'T EVEN SEEM TO FIND THE TIME TO TAKE PICTURES ANYMORE EITHER. THINGS AROUND OUR HOME HAVE BEEN A LITTLE NUTS.
CALEB:
AS MOST OF YOU KNOW CALEB SUFFERS FROM SENSORY INTERGRATION PROCESSING DISORDER. I HAVE BEEN HAVING A REALLY TOUGH TIME LATLEY WITH HIM. HE IS CONSTANTLY HITTING HIMSELF IN THE HEAD. HIS TANTRUMS HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF CONTROL (THOUGH HE ISN'T ANGRY; JUST FRUSTRATED). HE HAS STARTED MAKING HIMSELF GAG AGAIN. HE HAS STARTED SPINNING AROUND IN CIRCLES WITH HIS EYES CLOSED AGAIN. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE. EVERYTHING I TRY DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK. WE ARE STARTING BEHAVIORAL THERAPY THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY. HE TESTED LAST WEEK AT A 1 YEAR 11 MONTH OLD LEVEL FOR SPEECH. WE START SPEECH THERAPY NEXT WEEK. TWICE A WEEK FOR 30 MIN EACH SESSION. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT GIVES HIM 30 A WEEK (15 MIN ONE DAY AND 15 MIN ANOTHER). THEY SAYS THAT IS ALL HE QUALFIES FOR. WHAT ANGERS ME THE MOST IS THIS ALL ISN'T FAIR TO CALEB. BECAUSE NO ONE SEEMED TO CARE ABOUT MY SON FOR THE FIRST 18 MONTHS OF HIS LIFE, HE SUFFERS NOW. YOU ALL NOW HOW BAD OFF HE WAS WHEN HE CAME HOME AND HOW FAR HE HAS COME. I AM SO EXCITED FOR HIS UPCOMING PROGRESS AND TO SEE HIM BLOSSOM EVEN MORE PUTS A SMILE ON MY FACE.

CAITLYN:
DRAMA QUEEN, DRAMA QUEEN, DRAMA QUEEN!
TODAY WAS HER 18 MONTH CHECK UP AND SHE WEIGHS 25 lbs. AND 32 in. LONG. SHE HAS A VOCABULARY OF AROUND 60 WORDS. SHE IS ABLE TO PUT 2+ WORDS TOGETHER. AND ONCE DADDY GETS HOME SHE LETS ME KNOW QUICK THAT I BETTER STEP BACK...THAT IS HER DADDY. SHE GETS VERY MAD IF I INTERUPT HER TIME. SHE IS VERY INTO ALL THE GIRLY THINGS. SHE LOVES TO DRESS UP AND LOVES HER BOWS :)

Hey there...I have missed all of you:) Kade has a Sensory Integration Disorder-Vestibular, so his balance was bad but is better, he stares at things while running back and forth, he can't focus on one thing in a busy room and processing is slow. He is not considered severe at all...but I get what you are going through. The Dr.s and therapists say it is probably because he layed around alot as a baby(the vestibular part of the ear didn't form correctly), and he didn't get out into the world and begin to learn how to focus on one thing instead of taking it all in. So I am bitter about that...I try not to be but I am. He is in an awesome pre-school program, so hopefully with 2 years of pre-school he will be at the other kids "level" or close to it by kinder.

Have you tried a Gluten and dairy free diet? I have heard that it can help, we were going to try it, but Kade really started talking and we decided not to do it.

And I am so glad to hear you have a drama queen too...EEEK! Can you imagine when they are 13?

Hang in there...if you need to chat with someone who "gets it" I am here.

Hey Natalie,
I hope the speech therapy is going well and that it is helping with Caleb....as I'm sure it is. I love all of the new pics. Looks like you've been busy baking! Yum! I love the snow pictures...especially the snow family! Too cute! I can't believe how fast the kids are growing. They are getting so big and are adorable! Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year!

Caleb's sensory problems sound like my 2 yr old granddaughter's. She is a meth baby, but very healthy now, by God's grace and love for her. Anyway, we were advised by a therapist to use brushing therapy, brushing her arms and legs systematically each day. We bought a special brush. She has to touch everything. Food is a play thing, has to be experienced more than tasted. She also gags herself by sticking her finger down her throat until she chokes & coughs. So unladylike! We don't know what to do about that - yet. Brushing helped calm her a bit and focus. She also zeroes in on TV, almost hypnotic to it. She has a wonderful personality, funny & so alive! God bless you with the challenges Caleb brings, God will direct you, and know that some stuff they will grow out of as they mature and become more secure with who they are, loved, & prayed for.

Hoping that the BT has begun in earnest and that you are able to draw a breath of peace every now and again.

And the Drama Queen thing...get your arms wrapped around that! 13 years and counting for my oldest...once a Diva always a Diva!!
